Lobbying Efforts
The Downtown BIZ uses many tools to communicate our goals to enhance downtown safety.
Some include:
- Blog entries, read by several 100 people every month (members only)
- The Downtown Winnipeg Magazine- Winter 2011
- Meetings with the Police Chief and City Hall officials
- The DSN network itself which aims to inform downtown businesses and connect them with key people in the Winnipeg Police Services
Our message is simple and clear
While there are many initiatives the BIZ undertakes to promote downtown safety, there are two clear lobbying efforts that the BIZ allocates a significant amount of time towards:
- The Downtown BIZ would like the City of Winnipeg to increase the presence of Winnipeg Police Beat Patrol on downtown streets. A visible and noticeable presence is required 7 days a week, at all hours.
- Continue to work with the City and Province and the private sector to expand the Watch and Outreach Program, as they are making a difference.
